The Making Of...

Like all great things created by mankind, Trylah was an idea. This idea was formed from our own experiences in our desire to create a better system to sell and buy cars. We want to have the medium to ease the interaction between the buyers and sellers.

And this medium would integrate all the current and latest technologies to reduce time, effort and paperwork. Through this system, the experience of selling and buying a car will be a safe, pleasant and most importantly, add more value to both buyer and seller.

Not only will Trylah be THE marketplace to buy and sell cars, it will also create a whole new experience of on-the-go business and lifestyle. We at Trylah are determined to create a system whereby the selling and buying of cars are at the tip of one's fingers, anytime, anywhere.

And this never ending journey began with that idea.

Solving Problems, Creating Solutions

The picture above is scanned from the NST dated Monday, 23 April, 2007. The gist of this news report is that more than 600,000 used cars worth RM12 billion are lying idle at dealerships in the country.

The proposed solution for this backlog of car inventories is to have a Project Scrap, whereby "owners would be able to sell their cars which are more than 15 years old to Proton for a RM5,000 coupon, which can be used as a down payment to purchase new Proton cars".

However, this solution was rejected by Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations (Fomca). Reported by Bernama, FOMCA has disagreed to the suggestion to scrap vehicles more than 15 years old, saying the move will be unfair to low-and medium-income earners.

Therein lies the problem of use, unwanted cars laying idle in dealerships and also in homes of private owners. As we see it, there is a mismatch of buyers and sellers in this country.

Trylah provides the solution to this problem as the foremost marketplace to sell and buy cars. At a low price, car dealers can have the cars that they want to sell to be in the system.

Now, you may be thinking what sets Trylah aparts from the other media that posts car advertisements?

KEYWORD HERE IS : GUARANTEED POTENTIAL BUYERS FOR CARS ADVERTISED IN THE SYSTEM.

Not one, but 3 leads for you to sell your cars to! For the small amount that you advertise your cars to, your car will remain in the system until you get 3 lead hits. From there onwards, you can deal directly with the leads. You will have the hand phone numbers and name of the potential buyer.

There are no commission charges as Trylah is NOT an agent. We only reel in the fish, it depends on how you want to cook it. :)

You will soon learn on how to use the Trylah system. Plus, there are also other rewards that awaits you, for car buyers and also for introduction of Trylah to another friend.

Looking for a car using the Trylah system

Here is the step by step guide for searching a car using the Trylah system.

1) When a buyer wishes to request for a car via SMS, the first step is to SMS “RegCarName” to the short code given[i].

[i] Potential car buyer types: and sends it to the designated short code number 33887

After registering according to the instruction, this will return steps on how to use the service offered by Trylah[ii]

[ii] System returns instructions on how to make a SMS request

Alternatively, buyers who are familiar with the system can SMS their desired car details (i.e. Make, Model, Year) [iii] or just the reference number which can be obtained by conducting a search on the Trylah website [iv].

[iii] Buyers type: BUY(space)MAKE(comma)MODEL(comma)ENGINECC(comma)YEAR

Request will be immediately sent if there is a match, and if there are any errors or no matches the buyers will be asked to contact the Trylah customer service hotline [iv]. The Trylah customer service will also be automatically informed of the error. Here all requests are treated as a potential buyer so none will go unanswered

[iv] If buyer types incorrect info, he/she will receive an error message, prompting them to call the hotline 1300-887-887. The hotline number will be available to assist buyers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Alternatively, buyer can refer to www.trylah.com as well.

<--[if !supportLists]-->

The buyer will receive particulars of the sellers (dealers & individuals) that are currently stocking the car that has just been requested [v]. The buyer will receive the particulars via SMS at no charge from Trylah (excluding standard telco fees). Concurrently the buyer’s mobile phone number and his/her request will be forwarded to the seller stocking the car via SMS [vi].

Trylah In The News - 5

The New Straits Times carried a good piece on Trylah titled "Trylah....buying a car only SMS away" , in Innovations section on 21 st May 2007. The scanned copy of the article is pictured below.

From the article,

THINKING of buying a car but find it too tedious to survey the classifieds in the papers or visit car dealers physically? Perhaps you can subscribe to Trylah (www.trylah.com), a virtual automobile marketplace that allows buyers and sellers to communicate through a central hub by different modes of communication, be it short message service (SMS), the Web or a hotline service. Launched last week by startup Trylah Sdn Bhd, the application is set to revolutionise the way cars are sourced, advertised and sold in Malaysia. Managing director Shafique Iqbal said it offers an intuitive, simple English and SMS-based search and its technology back-end creates an association between buyers and sellers in real time.

"It is now a buyer's market. It is imperative to offer convenience to the buyer, who puts up the money, in a totally transparent, scalable and affordable manner. Via SMS, we believe there is combined synergy in creating a virtual market for buyers and sellers." According to Shafique, the Trylah system only interacts with mobile users who have been verified based on their mobile phone and identification numbers. It also promotes confidentiality and privacy, unlike the current manual system.

For car dealers, the application provides a database that allows them to have access to detailed reports and performance parameters of their sales force and market trends, Shafique pointed out. "Unlike any other media, the Trylah system assures at least three guaranteed and authentic leads to the seller. Trylah repeats the ad at its own cost until the seller receives the assured leads." DEVELOPMENT PROCESS. From the conception of the idea, the Trylah team described the ground realities, which included the challenges faced by the Malaysian automotive segment, to its partner Bodhtree Consulting India. What was evident from the discussions, according to Shafique, was lack of transparency, efficiency and security in conducting physical commerce in the sector. A series of brainstorming sessions between the domain experts from Malaysia and the technology experts and partners from India resulted in a mechanism aimed at nipping the deficiencies. The last nine months saw a cumulative effort by 180 people to bring about enhance the automotive market.

"The fact that a buyer and/ or a seller daf no other option but to promote his request through traditional media, coupled with negativities such as potential manipulation, arbitrariness and extended time lag, led to the realisation of an opportunity to provide a system addressing Shafique said.

"Bodhtree Consulting utilised all its energies and relationships with companies in the new media and Web 2.0 spaces to provide a foolproof soultion that would duly empower all the stakeholders." HOW IT WORKS. The enquiry process is simple. Users register themselves through either their mobile phone by text to "TRYLAH" 33887, or the Trylah Web Web site. Once they are registered, they can send a text message or call in through to the Trylah Buyers Hotliners to request for the car that they are looking for. The system will match their request with what is available and then connect the buyer with the seller by sending each party an SMS with the respective contact detsils.
Working in the background is an engine that authenticates the credibility of the requstor and subsequently authorises the authenticated requestor. Another engine then allows the authenticated and authorised requestor to sought.

A filtration engine posts the verification and facilitates the user interaction. A matching engine then breaks a query into its attributes and matches it with information in its repository. Once a query is matched, a streaming engine streams the matched results to the recipient's device format.

"There is a repository that contains a rich database of the attributes or description of a vehicle, which is matched through an automated query initiated from its matching engine. The results obtained here are streamed over secure network to the authorised and authenticated recipent," Shafique pointed out.

According to Trylah, buyers receive the contact details of a maximum of five dealers or individuals currently stocking the vehicle of their choice.
"The text service is free for buyers (less the usual text message costs). For sellers or dealers, they are guaranteed at least three leads for a nominal payment," Shafique said. FUTURE PLANS. Trylah is currently positioned to capture the local automotive sector. But the flexibility of the backbone allows the promoters to extend the technology to geographies beyond local shores, according to Shafique.

"Since one of Trylah's strengths is in its extensive and rich domain expertise in automotive, the management of Trylah is committed to provide maximum benefits to the automotive sector in Malaysia. This is because Trylah is based on a generic and reusable backbone that facilitates the identification, matching and transmission of a request, and Bodhtree's modular development in its software provides unlimited scalability." Among future opportunities, Trylah as a brand will extend its wings to cover other relevant areas in the consumer durable segment. Shafique said the company is also open to franchising its model to the international scene.

"The investment in Trylah so far has been a conscientious decision in terms of flexibility and scalability to cover not only different geographies, but also a multitude of products. We have received substantial offers to replicate the platform for manufacturers of white goods within Malaysia and also the automotive industry in neighbouring countries," Shafique said.

Hi Rhonda,

What is the outstanding amount you have on the Waja? The selling price of the waja must be more then your loan balance or not you have to pay the difference and settle that financing first. If you have a loan balance which is higher then the selling price you have to come up with Cash to pay off. Then the new car you can finance. Now the problem here is we need to know the waja loan balance and value? Please get back to us with more details and we will do our best to assist you.

It is possible if the car you are planning to buy has a high market value but is selling at a low price. When you buy a car at about 15 to 18k you will need a car which is rather new. Cars below 5 years will have low interest and high loan value. My advice ma'am would be find a rather new car which is selling below market value. The extra sum how ever might still not be enough for you to settle ur old loan but if you wait any longer you might never be able to settle the loan. Best you work fast on this matter as the car prices are dropping daily and you will be stuck with your waja. My advice would be a used Myvi where the loan amount can be marked up and the fuel consumption is low which will reduce your monthly burden. You can advertise your car on TRYLAH.COM for free and might be able to source a buyer at a higher price. Once you have some commitment or deposit from the buyer you can source a Myvi fast and purchase it. Sell ur car first as prices are going down so fast and when you are ready for the new car hopefully the new car price would have gone down further. I hope this advice is usefull and if you need any assistance please let us know. TRYLAH is here to help all.

The Star -Life being squeezed out of used-car dealers

This is taken from a recent news report covered by the Star on Thursday, May 3.

In the article, it was mentioned that " Federation of Motor and Credit Companies Association of Malaysia secretary Khoo Kah Jin said that before the National Automotive Policy was introduced, banks would consider giving a loan to a borrower without placing much priority on what the borrower earned."

Additionally, "
Khoo said he understood that it was the banks’ right to determine interest rates but felt that the disparity should not be so great between new cars (2.5%-3%) and used cars (4%-8%). . He added that as a result of lower second-hand car value and some of the measures, there was a shortage of second-hand cars that were two to five years old as people were reluctant to sell and dealers reluctant to take them because the outstanding loan amount was too high. "

Another piece of news from the Star Business also reinforces the same fears facing car dealers for Proton cars, the national car company.
Proton Edar dealers under pressure

In the article, "
Poor sales, dwindling second-hand car values and difficulty for buyers to obtain financing are exerting immense pressure on Proton dealers, Proton Edar Dealers Association Malaysia said.

Its president Wan Ahmad Sepwan Wan Abd Rahman said expectations that national carmaker Proton would sell more vehicles this year – 166,000 units from 115,000 last year – as the passenger car market grew 45% did not come as a respite for dealers."

We at Trylah are aware of the problems facing car dealers and car buyers. It is pivotal for the automobile industry to have a market where information can be exchanged rapidly, thereby reducing operational costs in searching, buying and selling cars. Trylah provides instantaneous solutions at a very cheap price. The SMS is free for buyers , and for car sellers/dealers, you will get guaranteed 3 leads for a minimum amount.

Currently, there is no advertisement portal that will guarantee you leads to buy and sell cars. And Trylah does not require commissions from the cars sold as well. Instead, Trylah provides rewards for those who buy cars using the Trylah system.

Our product solution will come by to encourage active participation to engage in buying of cars whereby the price of cars will be determined by market forces. As the user will receive up to 5 (or more upon request) names and telephone numbers of car dealers that have the cars desired, there is opportunity to get a better price for a car by comparing prices and getting the best deal.

Its a free market for automobile enthusiast and business people. In the long run, with a free market where prices are not governed by unnecessary costs, the buyers and sellers are the winners in the long run.
